Brand New to Health Goth Yoga Studio?
You’ve come to the right page!
Welcome to Health Goth Yoga <3
HGY is a a virtual studio that hosts yoga, fitness and meditation classes to the sound of alternative, punk, emo, goth and metal music. As a latina punk, Crystal wanted to make yoga more accessible to BIPOC and Alternative Folks who may be scared away from trying it because they don’t fit the stereotypical mold for a yoga practitioner.
HGY interweaves non-traditional movements and alternative music into a traditional asana practice that integrates the other limbs of yoga in an approachable manner. HGY also leads yoga retreats around the world, gathering like-minded adventure seeking weirdos to fun places to practice yoga, explore and create connections.

OMG yes! We encourage all levels, genders, body types, ethnicities, orientations, subcultures and everybody. We get a lot of students who have never done yoga! We ask that you have an open mind and listen to your body! Please contact your doctor before you begin any workout/yoga routine, especially if you are recovering from an injury, an illness, or you are pregnant.

What Yoga Props do I need?
A Yoga Mat, though if you have carpeting, you probably can just practice on that directly!
Though other props are not used in every class, it is always nice to have them handy to help with your practice. We also recommend you have a pair of Yoga Blocks, (other options could be strong smaller boxes, or large soup cans) to help with support, blanket, pillow or cushion, and perhaps a yoga strap (or belt, or scarf).
How can I get a discounted membership?
Referrals, Referrals, Referrals! Every person you refer to, you get a $10 credit to your account. TESTIMONIAL
“I've now been a member of HGY for just over a year, and joining was such a great decision! Practicing--even virtually--with like-minded and musical folks has motivated me to make yoga an active part of my life rather than just something I do every now and then. I look forward to the playlists and themes Crystal chooses for her classes, and I absolutely love the modifications and alternatives she offers. Part of what's helped me commit to practicing regularly was embracing that yoga isn't a competition with others or even yourself: it's about making time for yourself and giving your body what it needs in that moment, and that'll be different from one day to the next. Crystal keeps this at the center of her classes, and this keeps me coming back. I've also now practiced many different styles of yoga that I'd never done before joining HGY. Yin yoga? LIFE CHANGING.”

What are the types of classes?
MAGIC MONDAYS:
A 50 minute All Levels Vinyasa Flow to the sound of a provided alternative playlist. This class tends to be a more vigorous class that offers modifications both for beginners and more intermediate asana practitioners. Expect a dynamic and fluid sequence of yoga postures that are linked together with breath. The flow tends to be fun and sometimes funky and may incorporate unusual transitions, and creative sequencing. Class ends with an oracle card reading. Spotify Playlist is Provided, but not streamed on this regular Monday class.
WITCHY WORKOUT:
This is a 45 minute and All Levels (but very sweaty!) HIIT Flow class. This class interweaves about 15 minutes of HIIT (High intensity interval training) bodyweight moves into a power flow sequence. This call ends with an oracle card reading during savasana. Spotify Playlist is provided but not streamed on this regular Wednesday class.
VINYASA FLOW:
I tend to teach creative vinyasa flows where you can expect a dynamic and fluid sequence of yoga postures that are linked together with breath. The flow tends to be fun and sometimes funky and may incorporate unusual transitions, and creative sequencing. These are all levels, but tend to work towards optional intermediate poses. Playlists are usually streamed for these classes on Tuesdays and weekends.
YIN YANG YOGA:
Yin Yang Yoga is a practice that combines the floor-based and meditative Yin style with the more dynamic yang style of vinyasa yoga. The Yin poses are held for several minutes to release tension and increase flexibility, while the Yang or Vinyasa half of class is more flowing and moving. Playlist is usually streamed for these regular saturday classes.
OTHER STYLES:
Power Flow:
Even sweatier than the Magic Monday Flow class, but less sweaty than HIIT Flow. There's some more repetitive movement in this class!
Flow and Restore:
Like the reverse of Yin Yang, you move and flow first and then you get into chill floor-based poses with more of a focus on relaxing than deep stretching.
Gentle Movement:
Exactly what it's class! Gentler movement!
Yin Yoga:
This is the floor based postures from Yin Yang, just not ending with any movement. The intention for this class is to deeply stretch.
Restore:
Superrrr chill class. More of a meditative, lightly opening class. Similar to yin except the intention is to relax versus stretch.

TESTIMONIALS
“Crystal's classes are very invigorating and dynamic - I've never done the same thing twice with her. She makes yoga interesting and accessible, with a killer soundtrack. [I get the] opportunity to really push during one power class, and vinyasa classes that helped strike a balance between mind/body.”

“I was first drawn to HGY because unlike some other yoga classes, it feels really welcoming to people of different body types, looks, and especially interests and music taste! This was refreshing because when I first got into yoga, it felt like most yogis had to look and act a certain way. I also get all the mental and spiritual benefits of yoga and especially love the witchy-inspired touches to classes like pulling oracle cards, or discussing the moon phases. I'd recommend HGY to anyone who likes alt culture, yoga, spirituality, meditation, or exercise!”

“I've exercised consistently for most of my life, but it always felt like a chore. Practicing yoga helped some, but it wasn't until I started taking Crystal's Health Goth Yoga classes that "working out" became a true self-care practice. The unique combination of (excellent!) music with Crystal's teaching is healing for my body, my mind, and my soul. Attending a class is an act of kindness toward myself--I feel more centered and ready to face whatever is going on in my life. Crystal is a very inclusive instructor and always provides modifications so that folks can take the flows at their own respective levels. Her personality is very welcoming, and she makes classes fun by interjecting oracle card readings, meditations, breathwork, or her own personal anecdotes. Different music themes and peak poses keep classes engaging and interesting each week. I look forward to every class and miss them on days off! I also love that they are virtual and that replays are available if I do need to miss one (or want to repeat a class!). I can't recommend Health Goth Yoga enough!”
